After the dreaded arrival of COVID, countries around the world have had to implement a series of regulations to control the entry and exit of travellers.  In this blog we will point out requirements needed in order to enter and exit Spain as a tourist, this way you can be ensured that you have all necessary documents in order to have a stress free travel experience into Spain.

Vaccination Certificate

This document is what is commonly known as a COVID passport.  The document proves that you have been vaccinated after receiving the necessary amount of doses required.  The vaccination certificate must be the original document otherwise you could be denied entry into the country.

You can present the document in digital or paper format and we recommended that you bring both formats to avoid any problems.

Other Certificates to enter Spain

Passengers whose origin is a country with a high risk of COVID contagion will need to present a certificate showing a negative COVID test for current variants and this must be done 8 hours before entering into Spain.  Luckily for our little ones, children under the age of 6 are not required to take the test.

If one has contracted COVID, they can enter Spain as tourists, if the passenger can demonstrate via a medical certificate that they have fully recovered and are no longer contagious.  It will be valid if 11 days have passed after recovery.  The duration of the certificate will expire after 180 days starting from the first day the test was taken.  Don’t forget to carry the certificate with you when you travel.

PCR test upon departure from Spain

You should always consult requirements to enter Spain as a tourist as well as to depart from the country and enter your origin country.  As governments are changing the requirements needed in order to enter and exit their country adapting to the ever changing pandemic conditions.  The PCR test can be obtained from most health centers and private hospitals.

Sanitary Control Form

Tourists entering Spain must fill out a sanitary control form before entering the country in which they state their temperature (this will be checked by authorities), vaccination certificates and other documents will be checked upon arrival at airport.  After completing the sanitary control form you will receive a QR code.  Don’t forget to fill out the form and keep the QR code with your vaccination certificate.

Passengers with more restrictions and quarantine requirements

Passengers coming from high-risk countries, or that the government of Spain considers high-risk, must remain in quarantine for 10 days after arrival to Spain.  At the time of this blog publication Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, South Africa and Namibia are high-risk countries and passengers coming from these countries have to go though more controls upon entry.  So as you can see, you can come to Spain as a tourist as long as you meet the necessary requirements and restrictions as discussed above.
